The English Community Care Association (ECCA), the leading representative body for independent care providers, has responded to the consultation on the Code of Practice for Health and Adult Social Care on the Prevention and Control of Infections. Ann Mackay, Director of Policy, says: “ECCA is supportive of the Code, which will be an important step in ensuring the health and safety of people cared for in independent health and social care services. That said, ECCA would urge the Department of Health to use the opportunity presented by the publication of the code to address the shift of the cost of certain healthcare services, e.g. vaccinations, onto social care”.
Ann Mackay continues: “Finally, it should be noted that application of the code needs to be proportionate, particularly when applied to small care homes. There must be a common understanding between CQC, commissioners and providers as to what is realistic for different types of providers in terms of the Code’s application”. Notes to Editors:
- ECCA works to ensure that care services are commissioned fairly, efficiently and on a properly funded basis, to meet the true costs of providing appropriate care
