IMMEDIATE RELEASE
18 June 2009
The English Community Care Association (ECCA), the leading representative body for independent care providers, has raised a number of issues that have come out of the Laing & Buisson survey of UK Local Authority Baseline Fee Rates 2009/10, to be published in Community Care Market News.
Martin Green, Chief Executive of ECCA, says: “Whatever the level of fees that are being paid, there is a systemic problem which lies at the heart of how we fund social care and that is the lack of transparency and a proper formula on which to base a robust approach to fees”.
Martin Green continues: “It is important that we move away from unaccountable and arbitrary fee setting by commissioners and develop an approach which has a robust, accountable and clear formula for defining fees. Until we get to this position we will always be in a fragile and, at times, volatile market”.

A new helpline service has been launched by ECCA, in partnership with care home specialist energy firm D-ENERGi, offering ECCA members free advice on a wide range of energy issues. In addition, the service is available to help ECCA members reduce their operating costs for electricity and gas and can even help with issues such as rebates for customers who suspect they may have been overcharged for their electricity and gas supplies.
The helpline also offers easy to implement advice on how to make your care home more environmentally friendly and how to reduce your carbon footprint.
Zico Ahmed, Marketing Director of D-ENERGi said; “D-ENERGi are a family run energy management company who take enormous pride in being able to support the important work of the independent care home sector. Supporting a significant percentage of the small homes in England already, we believe we are the chosen energy company of choice for so many in the sector because we try at all times to understand the businesses we are working with building one to one relationships with customers, many of whom are more than client, they are friends. We are very pleased to be able to extend our services to the ECCA membership, and look forward to care home owners taking advantage of the free helpline and information now available through the ECCA”.
Martin Green, Chief Executive of ECCA added; “I am delighted to announce this new helpline service for ECCA members, particularly at a time of such financial pressure for operators in the sector, and hope members take full advantage of the information and services available through ECCA’s partnership with D-ENERGi”.
